Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 18:58 on 19 May 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems, because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"[edit]

"A series of solar storms impact Earth" -- the word "impact" should be "impacts", conjugated to go with "a series" Dotdotdotatsignapostrophe (talk) 14:25, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. It's a collective plural.  — Amakuru (talk) 15:03, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In protests, could we link New Caledonia for accessibility? Brandmeistertalk 16:24, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I’d regard that as MOS:OVERLINK, as I think of it as a country (which, admittedly, it technically is not). Schwede66 18:29, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's rather less known than, e.g., France or US for MOS:OVERLINK purpose, but anyway... Brandmeistertalk 18:36, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The caption for the photograph says 'Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. But the photograph was taken AFTER the ceremony, at which point she was no longer called 'Meghan Markle'. 85.144.85.184 (talk) 17:53, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Friday's FL[edit]

Monday's FL[edit]

(May 20, tomorrow)

The blurb was modified yesterday in a way that made it clearer that the boldfaced link leads to the timeline (as opposed to the main season article), and while I like the new intro, the change did introduce a new minor issue. The blurb now states twice that eighteen systems formed overall during the season; I would like to propose the following change to rectify this (my specific recommendations emphasized):

Today's POTD[edit]

The current POTD depicts an oak acorn, and the description in part reads "This acorn of the species Quercus robur (the pedunculate oak) . . . ."

However, it looks to me like that of Quercus petraea (the sessile oak). The acorns of Q. robor are borne on stalks (or 'peduncles') hence the name, while those of Q. petraea sit (hence 'sessile') directly on the twigs. The two species are otherwise quite similar and easily confused, and both are found throughout Europe.

The picture's file — File:Quercus robur acorn - Keila.jpg — uses the filename and description box title Quercus robor but mentions no other distinguishing details (unless in the Finnish text). I think the File name is a mistake.

I suggest this needs to be looked at, and corrected if I am right. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 94.2.67.173 (talk) 14:05, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
