We first see this artifact in [[../..Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Places/Borgin & Burkes|Borgin and Burke's]], in [[../..Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Places/Knockturn Alley|Knockturn Alley]]. [[../..Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Harry Potter|Harry]], having run into trouble on his first trip using [[..Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Magic/Floo Powder/]], ends up in Borgin and Burke's. As he is preparing to exit, he sees [[../..Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Draco Malfoy|Draco Malfoy]] preparing to enter. Harry hides; it is while he is hidden that he hears Borgin answering Draco's question about the Hand of Glory and its function. Borgin says that it is the best friend of thieves and plunderers, and Draco's father, [[../..Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Lucius Malfoy|Lucius Malfoy]] says that he hopes Draco will be better than a thief or a plunderer... though unless his grades come up, that may be the best he can hope for.
Draco evidently does, at some point, purchase a Hand of Glory, because [[../..Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Ginny Weasley|Ginny]] sees him carrying it when he leads the invasion of Hogwarts from the Room of Requirement, and it apparently allows him to see where he is leading the Death Eaters despite the Peruvian Instant [[..Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Magic/Darkness Powder/]] that he spreads around.
