Although it is not mentioned in [[../../Books/Chamber_of_Secrets|''Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'']], [[../../Characters/Aragog|Aragog]] is an Acromantula. The [[../../Places/Forbidden Forest|Forbidden Forest]] population of Acromantulae are fathered by him; and he owes a debt to [[../../Characters/Rubeus Hagrid|Hagrid]], who raised him in a cupboard in Hogwarts castle fifty years prior. The fact that he is an Acromantula is brought out in [[../../Books/Half-Blood_Prince|''Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince'']].
Acromantula venom is apparently exceedingly valuable, but it is nearly impossible to get it from the living spider; and as acromantulae eat their dead, it is very uncommon to find one that can still be harvested.
