Alecto and Amycus are two of the Death Eaters who breakwere outsummoned ofafter [[MugglesLord Voldemort's Guide to Harry Potter/Places/Azkaban|Azkaban Prison]] in about Marchrebirth. While their names are not mentioned at the time of theby breakoutVoldemort, their membership in that group is strongly implied by [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Severus Snape|Snape]]'s comments in the early chapters of ''Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince''.

The Carrows take part in [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Major Events/Tower Battle (Hogwarts)|the Battle of Lightning-Struck Tower]]. Both of them are at the top of the tower when Snape kills [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Albus Dumbledore|Albus Dumbledore]]. As Harry chases Snape through the battle and out the front door, he sees Alecto dueling with [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/GinnyMinerva WeasleyMcGonagall|GinnyMinerva WeasleyMcGonagall]] before fleeing with Snape. We later see her on the grounds where she escapes along with her brother and [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Thorfinn Rowle|Thorfinn Rowle]].

Alecto compensates for her lack of intelligence by the use of unrestrained violence and Unforgivable Curses, most notably the [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Magic/Crucio|Cruciatus curse]]. It is debatable whether this could be considered a strength. At the very least she seems more intelligent than Amycus.
