Dòng 63:
While the reason is never explicitly given, it is clear that when Dumbledore, watching the students return from the Yule Ball, remarks that perhaps the students are Sorted too soon, Snape is shocked at the thought that his true place at Hogwarts as a boy, and his entire later life, could have been different had the Sorting been delayed until he better understood his own desires.

The thirteenth memory fragment, where Snape is blocking the lethal curse that threatens Dumbledore's life, shows one very interesting point. Dumbledore comments that Voldemort has tasked Draco with killing Dumbledore. Snape is surprised that Dumbledore knows this, though he agrees that while this is the stated plan, the actual intent is to further humiliate and punish the Malfoys. Snape's surprise indicates that he had not discussed these matters with Dumbledore, and we never discover how Dumbledore uncovered the plot. It is a reasonable assumption that Draco, Lucius, and Narcissa would never have revealed anything to Dumbledore, and apart from those three, one can assume only Voldemort and Snape would know it. Does Dumbledore have another informant within Voldemort's inner council? Is there some other method that enabled Dumbledore to learn about Voldemort's plans? We never find out. Though it is possible Narcissa is Dumbledore's informant. This is speculative, because of Narcissa sparing Harry after finding out that he is still alive after Voldemort cursed him.

The conversation between Snape and Dumbledore on the castle grounds, appearing as Snape's fourteenth memory, has bits never heard before. Apparently this discussion took place the previous year, just before Ron's rather disastrous birthday. It was partially overheard by Hagrid, who, with his usual inability to keep a secret, passed on the bits he overheard to Harry and Hermione.
