As wizards file out ofexit the courtroom, Mr. Weasley expresses surprise that Harry was apparently tried by the entire [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Magic/Wizengamot|Wizengamot]]. As [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Percy Weasley|Percy]] passes, and he and Mr. Weasley studiously ignore each other, though the lines around Mr. Weasley's mouth tighten.
 
Harry and Mr. Weasley encounter [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Cornelius Fudge|Cornelius Fudge]] talking to [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Lucius Malfoy|Lucius Malfoy]]. Mr. Weasley surmises heMalfoy was sneaking down to the courtroom to learn what was happening, despite Malfoy citing "private matters" to explain his conversation with Fudge. Mr. Weasley comments privately to Harry that it likely has more tolikely do withinvolved exchanging gold, and that Malfoy contributesdonates to all the rightappropriate causes as a means to get certain laws delayed or ignored. Harry suggestsKnowing that withMalfoy Fudgeis meeting privately witha [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Major Events/Death Eaters|Death EatersEater]], itHarry isthinks possible that he hasFudge beencould putbe under the [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Magic/Imperio|Imperius Curse]]. Mr. Weasley says they considered that, but Dumbledore believes Fudge is acting on his own.
 
Everyone at [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Places/Grimmauld Place|12 Grimmauld Place]] is relieved that Harry has been exonerated. [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Fred and George Weasley|Fred, George]], and [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Ginny Weasley|Ginny]] break into a victory dance and chant, "He got off, he got off, he got off!" until [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Molly Weasley|Mrs. Weasley]] yells at them. During the next few days, Harry realizesnotices that [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Sirius Black|Sirius]] seems sad. [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Hermione Granger|Hermione]] suggests that Sirius wasmay have secretly hopinghoped Harry would become an outcast likebe himexpelled and live at Grimmauld Place. Regardless, Harry's spirits are lifted, and he dreams about Hogwarts.
 
The day before school starts, booklistsBooklists finally arrive, raising the question as to who the new [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Magic/Defence Against the Dark Arts|Defence Against the Dark Arts]] teacher might be. There is other news—as expected, Hermione is named a Gryffindor [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Major Events/Prefects|prefect]], but so is [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Ron Weasley|Ron]], much to everyone's astonishment. As a reward, Mrs. Weasley agrees to buy Ron a new [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Magic/Brooms|broom]]. Harry struggles with jealousy and resentment, believing he should have been chosen over Ron. At theHarry's celebration dinner, Sirius consoles him, saying that [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/James Potter|his father]] had not been a prefect either. Of the four Marauders, only [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Remus Lupin|Lupin]] was made Prefect. Lupin comments that Dumbledore probably expected him to keep his friends under control, though he could not. Harry offers Ron his sincere congratulations.
 
After dinner, [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Alastor Moody|Mad-Eye Moody]] shows Harry a photograph of the original Order of the Phoenix, though Harry finds it disturbing, seeing them amongst so many others who died at Death Eaters' hands. Harry makes excuses and leaves the party.
