Moody asks for the third illegal curse; [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Hermione Granger|Hermione]] mentions [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Magic/Avada Kedavra|the Killing Curse]]. Moody curses another spider; in a jet of green light, it simply dies. Only one person is known to have survived that particular curse: [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Harry Potter|Harry Potter]]. For Harry, who remembers the green flash and the rushing noise, the curse is a revelation.

George, scratching out a line, cautions, "No, that sounds like we're accusing him. Got to be careful." Harry, his homework more important, returns to his fabrication. Hermione returns from the library intending to start an organization she calls [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Major Events/S.P.E.W.|S.P.E.W.: the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare]]. She coerces Harry and Ron into being officers. [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Hedwig|Hedwig]] appears at the window with a message from [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Characters/Sirius Black|Sirius Black]]. Sirius writes that Harry's painful scar, coupled with other events, concerns him - he is returning to England. Harry frets. If Sirius is captured, Harry would never forgive himself. A peevedPeeved, Harry shoos away the hungry Hedwig, who angrily flies off to the Owlery to find something to eat.
