This is where Lupin, who is a Werewolf, was confined during the full moon, to protect students and staff during his transformations. This protection is no longer needed as [[Muggles' Guide to Harry Potter/Magic/Wolfsbane Potion|a potion]] is now available that allows a transformed Werewolf to retain his human awareness during the lunar cycle. Lupin is seen drinking this potion, that Professor Snape prepares for him each month.
