Chapter 16
Arriving at Hogwarts, Harry learns that the dangerous Triwizard Tournament has been reinstated and is being held at Hogwarts. Students wishing to enter place their names into the Goblet of Fire, which will shoot out one name from each competing wizarding school, (Hogwarts, Beauxbatons, and Durmstrang). After choosing Viktor Krum from Durmstrang, Fleur Delacour from Beauxbatons, and Cedric Diggory from Hogwarts, the Goblet ejects a fourth name—Harry Potter—even though he is too young and never entered his own name. Harry is forced to participate, however, to themany's outrage of many, and he is accused of cheating.

With help from his friends and teachers, Harry survives the first two Triwizard challenges. During this time, his relationship with Ron Weasley, is temporarily strained by Harry's sudden explosion of fame. This fame soon backfires, as Daily Prophet reporter Rita Skeeter begins to digdigs deep to find (or fabricate) anything whichthat will tarnish Harry's reputation. Harry and Ron's friendship with Ron is saved oncewhen Ron realises just how perilous the Tournament willreally be for Harryis.

InFor the final challenge, the four competitors must navigate through a maze populated by dangerous creatures—. Harry and Cedric reach the trophy together, and because they helped they each other, agree to grab the trophy simultaneously, guaranteeing a Hogwarts victory.

The trophy is actually a Portkey, a magical transportation device that takessends them to a graveyard. Awaiting are Peter Pettigrew (also known as Wormtail) and Lord Voldemort. Peter kills Cedric using the unstoppable Avada Kedavra curse, then uses Harry's blood in a macabre ritual that restores Voldemort's body. He is more powerful than before and is now immune to the charm that protects Harry. Voldemort then summons the Death Eaters and attempts to kill Harry to prove that "the boy who lived" will not be his undoing again.

However, because Harry's and Voldemort's wands are formed from the same core, a feather from Dumbledore's phoenix, Fawkes, a phenomenon known as Priori Incantatem occurs. The wands streams interlock, forcing Voldemort's to regurgitate ghostly echoes of its past victims, including Harry's parents. The echoes holdfend off Voldemort while Harry escapes to the portkey thatand transports himhimself and Cedric's body back to Hogwarts.

On reaching Hogwarts, Harry lands amid the confusion caused by his disappearance. He is led to the castle by Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and Auror (Dark-wizard-catcher), Professor Alastor Moody. Moody reveals himself as a Death Eater, saying that it was he who entered Harry's name into the Goblet and ensured he made it through the tournament to be delivered to Voldemort. As Moody is about to attack Harry, Dumbledore, Snape, and McGonagall burst into the room and disarm him. After Dumbledore's interrogation, it is revealed that "Moody" is actually Barty Crouch's son in disguise. The real Professor Moody has been imprisoned in a magical trunk for the entire year.
