Helga Hufflepuff là một trong bốn nhà sáng lập trường Hogwarts và tạo nên Nhà Hufflepuff. Trong khi những nhà sáng lập khác có tiêu chí riêng để chọn ra những học sinh đặc biệt thì Hufflepuff chấp nhận tất cả. Tuy vậy, chiếc Mũ phân loại vẫn nói rằng những học sinh Nhà Hufflepuff được miêu tả là thật thà, lương thiện, trung thành và chăm chỉ. Không ai rõ thời điểm qua đời. Chân dung của bà vẫn còn được treo ở Hogwarts.

Professor Binns, in speaking of the feud that resulted in Salazar Slytherin leaving the school, mentioned that Hufflepuff had agreed with Godric Gryffindor that all Wizards should be taught, regardless of parentage.

At the Entrance Feast, the Sorting Hat's song is longer than usual, as it points up the dangers of inter-House rivalry and pleads for school unity. In that song, the Sorting Hat mentions Helga Hufflepuff and speaks of her character and the character of the students she preferred to teach.

While Helga Hufflepuff does not play a direct role in this book, we see that her cup is one of the artifacts of the Founders that is deeply desired by Tom Riddle. We believe that Riddle, to steal that artifact and one other, murdered an old witch, Hepzibah Smith, and let her house elf, Hokey, take the blame, though not even Professor Dumbledore can prove that.
